HARTER. Geo. Harter was born in Johnson Co., Ind., Jan. 21, 1837. The family moved to Dane Co., Wis., when he was about 12 years of age.

He was married to Adaline Gardner, Aug. 20, 1857. They came to Iowa in 1864 and settled in Jasper Co. where they lived until about four years ago. They came to Maxwell near two years ago, and he built the mill here.

Last winter he had a severe attack of grippe from which he never fully recovered. He had been confined to his home for the last three months. The trouble terminated in consumption. His death occurred on Sabbath afternoon, June 24th, 1894.

Mr. H. was a kind hearted man, a good citizen, a loving husband and an indulgent father. To him and his wife were born twelve children, four of these are dead. He had been a member of the M. P. church at Buena Vista for about 24 years and was an earnest christian. He was a member of the Odd Fellow's Lodge at Rhodes, and he and his wife were members of the Rebekah Lodge here.
CThe funeral took place on Tuesday at 11 a.m., in the C. P. Church. The remains were borne into the church by the Odd Fellows in procession. The Rebekah Lodge also marched in the procession. The C. P. choir rendered beautiful and appropriate music. Rev. Curtis read the scriptures, Rev. Doty offered prayer and Rev. Ferguson preached the sermon. ?. W. Maxwell then read the first part of the Odd Fellow's burial service, Rev. Ferguson acting as Chaplain.

The remains were then taken to the Green Valley cemetery in Jasper Co. where the concluding service was read by F. W. Hill, and the remains laid to rest. During the service in the church, the casket was covered with wreaths, Boquet, and devices of beautiful flowers, mostly furnished by the loving hands of the Rebekah Degree Lodge. Mr. Harter was held in high esteem by the community and his loss is sorely felt. There is much sympathy for Mrs. H. and the children.

CARD OF THANKS

Mrs. Harter and children extend their sincere thanks to the good people of Maxwell for their kindness to them in their late bereavement, and especially to the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Lodge.
