Rites Thursday At Colfax for Mrs. Wagner, 90
COLFAX – Mrs. Elizabeth Wagner, 90, died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harley Koontz at Bloomington, Ind., following a few weeks’ illness. She made her home with her daughter in the winter and spent her summers at her home at Colfax.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at her Colfax home by Rev. Albert Van Der Ploeg, pastor of the Baptist church. Burial was to be in the Slaughter cemetery, east of Colfax.
She was born in Lawrence county, Ind., May 17, 1849, and came to Iowa in June, 1870. In 1873 she was united in marriage to John J. Sumpter and to this union were born eight children. Mr. Sumpter died in 1897. She later married W. A. Wagner in 1914; he died in 1923.
Surviving relatives are her daughter, Mrs. Koontz, two sons, Owen Sumpter of Mitchellville and W. H. Sumpter of Chariton and a brother, B. F. East of Altoona.
