COLFAX - Nellie Baarda Talsma, 86 Colfax, a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, November 17, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Newton Christian Reformed Church. The Reverend Thomas Wetselaar, pastor of the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Rorabaugh Cemetery near Colfax.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

Memorials to Bethany Christian Adoptions Services will be accepted.

Survivors are her husband, James; a son, James Jr. of Colfax; four daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Harold) Vande Kieft of Prairie city, Eunice (Mrs. Robert) Davidson of Colfax, Karalyn (Mrs. Duan) Schroder of Colfax and Jo (Mrs. Cornie) Stursma of Prairie City; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are his sister, Alice Vonk of Sully, a half sister, Hermina Severson of Aurora, Ill., a half-brother, William Zuidema of Sully and a step-brother, John Zuidema of Sully.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, William, and two sisters.

Mrs. Talsma was a charter member of the Newton Christian Reformed Church.

The daughter of William and Alice De Groot Baarda, she was born January 18, 1904 in Sand Ridge near Sully.

She was married to James Talsma November 29, 1922 in Sully. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1990
