COLFAX - Gale Earl Tilton, 73, a resident of Colfax since 1927, died Thursday evening, Oct. 15, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. Jerry Harris, pastor of the Colfax Baptist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Colfax Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home afternoon Sunday and visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Colfax Baptist Church will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Leanna; five children, Gary Earl Tilton of San Clemente, Calif., James Leroy Tilton of Portland, Ore., Donna (Mrs. Joe) Hadsall of Marshalltown, Alice (Mrs. John) Borts of Colfax and Wayne Cross of Monroe; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Twila (Mrs. John) Pratt of Colfax.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In 1937 graduate of Colfax Community High School, he was a graduate of a barber college and for many years operated a barbershop in Colfax and also practiced his trade at the Veterans Administration Medical Centers in Knoxville and California.

He retired from the dietary department of the Veterans Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was a member of the Colfax Baptist Church.

The son of George and Louella Poling Tilton, he was born April 27, 1919 in Harlan and moved with his parents to Colfax in 1927.

He was married to Leanna cross March 11, 1956 in the Colfax United Methodist Church. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1992
