William Shrum Dies Monday; Rites Thursday

William F. Shrum, 46, of 200 E. 21st St. N., a lifelong resident of Newton; died Monday at DeWitt following an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Survivors are his wife, June; a son, Kendal of Newton; three daughters, Lynette, Barbara and Janna, all at home and a grandchild.

Also surviving are three brothers, Bob and John, both of Newton and Herbert of Burbank, Calif.; and five sisters, Mrs. George (Marg-sic Mary) Hitchler of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Eugene (Maye) Auten and Mrs. Richard (Sylvia) Ehler, both of Kellogg, Mrs. Jack (Ruby) Jontz of Andalusia, Ill, and Mrs. Paul (Florence) Liera of Yorba Linda, Calif.

Mr. Shrum, safety coordinator for United Telephone Co. of Iowa, was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Rotary Club and was past president of the Newton Jaycees.

The son of Francis DeWitt and Frances Elizabeth Harvey Shrum, he was born June 20, 1931 in Newton and was a 1950 graduate of Newton Community High School.

He was married to June Hurmence Aug. 21, 1954 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Mr. Shrum was a member of the Newton Community High School athletic teams, including the football squad while a student. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, April 25, 1978
