Daisy A. Schmiedeke

Daisy Ann Cole Schmiedeke, 91, formerly of 421 1st Ave. W., a resident of Newton since 1926, died Wednesday afternoon, July 26, at Nelson Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Rev. E. William Kaska, pastor of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday.

Survivors are a niece, Edith Harrison of Davenport; a great-nephew, William J. Harrison of Newton; and a close friend, Lulu Adams of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, “Bill” Aug. 28, 1984 and two sisters.

Mrs. Schmiedeke, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was a charter member of the Women of the Moose and Pocahontas of the Red Man Lodge.

She and her husband were instrumental in organizing the Newton Animal League for which she had served on the board of directors.

Mrs. Schmiedeke had walked miles collecting funds to keep the organization operational. The daughter of Frank D. and Anna B. Sinclair Cole, she was born Jan 19, 1896 in Numa.

She was married to William F. Schmiedeke Dec. 24, 1912 in Centerville.
