Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Branderhorst Swenson, 85, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday at the Third Reformed Church in Pella.

She died Monday of cancer.

The Rev. Dr. Delmar D. Thiesse will conduct the services. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

A family prayer time will precede the service at 1:15 p.m. in the church basement with the Rev. Henry Kolenbrander.

Visitations with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials to Hospice of Pella will be accepted at the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

PELLA -- Gertrude Van Zee Branderhorst Swenson, 85, of Pella, a former longtime resident of the Monroe community, died Monday, July 10, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Pella Third Reformed Church.

Dr. Delmar D. Thiesse, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

The Rev. Henry W. Kolenbrander, a retired pastor, will conduct the 1:15 p.m. Thursday prayer service in the church basement.

Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Memorials to Hospice of Pella may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are her husband, Ernest; a son Ronald Branderhorst of Prairie City; three grandchildren; and two half-brothers, Andrew P. Van Zee of Pella and Martin W. Van Zee of Prairie City.

Mrs. Swenson was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Gysbert C. Branderhorst Jan. 19, 1976, her step-mother, a half-sister, Wilma (Mrs. Ernest) Vogelaar, and a half-brother, Harold Van Zee.

Mrs. Swenson, a longtime former member of the Newton Christian Reformed Church, was a member of the Pella Third Reformed Church.

The daughter of William and Gertrude Buwalda Van Zee, she was born March 7, 1904 north of Pella.

After her marriage to Gysbert C. Branderhorst Feb. 25, 1931, they farmed for many years in the Monroe community.

She was married to Ernest Swenson Feb. 10, 1988 and they resided in the Lindview Apartments in Pella.
