Edna L. Peterson, 72, of 1105 E. 12th St. S. Apartment 113, mother of Judy Wittenberg of Newton, died Sunday, Oct. 1, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Wallace-Pence Funeral Home is handling arrangements which have not been completed.

Edna L. Peterson

Funeral services for Edna L. Ebaugh Peterson, 72, of 1105 E. 12th St. S., a resident of Newton since 1981, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton.

Additional services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, pastor if the Newton First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence.

Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 8 a.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Friends also may meet with the family from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the White Funeral Home in Independence where Ida Mansfield Circle of the Kings Daughters and Sons services will be held.

Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral homes.

She died of cancer Sunday evening at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Survivors are two sons, Richard “Dick” of Vicksburg, Miss., and Ray of Eureka, Ind,; two daughters, Jean P. Nichols of Sterling, Va., and Judy (Mrs. Erwin) Wittenberg of Newton; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Leland Ebaugh of Waverly and Ralph Ebaugh of Cedar Falls; and two sisters, Ruth Miller of Cedar Falls and Arlene (Mrs. Elbert) Briden of Janesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ward, in 1969, two brothers, Virgil and Marvin, and a sister, Mildred Mc Vey.

Mrs. Peterson, an employee of C. R. Anthony Co. until retiring in 1981, was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newton and a 50 year member of the Ida Mansfield Circle of the Kings Daughters and Sons.

The daughter of Fred and Mary Alice Frey Ebaugh, she was born Dec. 21, 1916 in Orange Township in Black Hawk County and was graduated from Orange Township High School.

She was married to Ward T. Peterson May 15, 1937 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Mrs. Peterson had resided in the Independence area before moving to Newton.
