Carl Edwin Hoffert, 77, of Newton died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Park Centre Health Care Center in Newton.
His body was donated to the University of Iowa Medical School. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
The son of Arthur George Hoffert and Kathryn Hummel, he was born Oct. 2, 1928, in rural Colfax. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1946. On Sept. 1, 1950, he married Betty Louise Main in Newton. He was a carpenter and worked for Maytag Company in maintenance and skilled trade for 45 years. He was a member of Moose Lodge, VFW Post No. 1655, American Legion Post No. 111 and Elks Club. Mr. Hoffert enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, hunting, gardening and collecting stoneware.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Marty (RaeAnn) Hoffert, Mark (Susan) Hoffert and Jon Hoffert, all of Newton; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Arlene Johnson of Grinnell, Helen Owens of Newton and Sandra Sanger of Oakland Acres; and a brother, Rollin Hoffert of Cedar Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert James Hoffert; and a sister, Jenevieve Doane.
