Lawrence E. "Larry" Brown, 93, of 500 N. First St. died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Mitchellville Cemetery in Mitchellville. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Family will be available to visit with friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials will be accepted in his name, to First United Methodist Church or to Jasper County Historical Society.

The son of James Arthur and Velva Elizabeth (Maudlin) Brown, he was born June 26, 1912, in Washington Township in Jasper County. He graduated from Prairie City High School in 1930. He attended Simpson College in Indianola for two years. On Aug. 2, 1942, he married Jennie Luella Johnson of Humboldt in Bethany, Mo.

Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Maytag salesman in Algona and Humboldt in the 1930s. He retired in 1977 from Deere and Company in Humboldt as a territory manager, where he worked for 29 years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, Jasper County Historical Society, Jasper County Genealogical Society and Iowa Rose Society. He enjoyed gardening, his roses and genealogy.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, David (Denise) Brown of Chantilly, Va., Douglas (Dori) Brown of Leawood, Kan., and Mark (Kimberly) Brown of Carrollton, Texas; three daughters, Marcia (Vern) Hansen of Cedar Falls, Mary (Kenneth) Workman of Pleasanton, Calif.; and Sharon (Dale) Reedy of Humboldt; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
