BAXTER — Lela M. Butler, 83, of Baxter died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. An Eastern Star Service will be held Friday at 7 p.m.
The daughter of Carl Jesse Gray and Hattie Esther (Smith) Gray, she was born March 25, 1922, in Newton. A lifelong resident of Jasper County, she attended schools in Newton and Mingo, graduating from Mingo High School in 1939. She married Max E. Butler of Baxter on Oct. 30, 1943, in Santa Ana, Calif.
Mrs. Butler was active in her church and community. She was a 56-year member of OES.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Dan (Carolyn) Butler of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jack (Peanut) Butler of Dubuque; one sister, Doris Buwalda of Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dave; one sister, Esther Wilson; and one brother, John Gray.
