Chester H. Dawson rites held today at Monroe church
MONROE - Funeral services for Chester H. Dawson, 67, of Monroe a former Newton contractor and a rural mail carrier until retiring in 1980, were held today at the Monroe Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. Douglas Maben, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe handled arrangements.
He died Thursday in Scottasdale, Ariz.
Memorial contributions to the Monroe Presbyterian Church will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Marjorie, a step-son, Don Tool of Des Moines; a step-daughter, Barbara Pierce of Des Moines; several step-grandchildren; and his mother, Pearl Wilson of Clear View Manor in Prairie City.
Also surviving are four sisters, Genevieve Slocum of bondurant, Della Birkenholtz of Prairie City, Carol Van Zee of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and two brothers, Carl Wilson of Mingo and Darrel "Jack" Dawson of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, a sister and a step-daughter.
Mr. Dawson was a member of the Monroe United Presbyterian Church and the National Rural Lettercarriers Association.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
The son of Clarence and Pearl Botsford Dawson, he was born Nov. 28, 1914 in Mapleton, Minn. ~ The Newton Daily News, April 19, 1982.
