Gladys Damman; former Jasper resident dies

MARSHALLTOWN - Mrs. John F. (Gladys) Damman, 78, of the Marshall County Care Facility; a former resident of Jasper County, died Saturday morning at the Marshalltown Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the st. John United Church of Christ in Melbourne. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens at Marshalltown.

Survivors are three sons, Floyd of Blue Jay, Calif., LeRoy of Melbourne and Donald of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Ruth Frohwein of State Center and Jean Brand of Baxter; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Norma Miller of Newton; a half-brother, Clarence Hotger of Newton; four half-sisters, Florence Danforth of Alhambra, Calif., Ruby Heuter of Costa Mesa, Calif., Irene Zickle of Laurel and Marie Powell of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her husband in April, 1969.

Mrs. Damman, who had resided on a farm in Jasper County near Melbourne for many years, also had resided at Melbourne.

The daughter of Fred and Anna Stolzman Hotger, she was born Sept. 3, 1904 in Jasper County and was educated in Jasper County schools.

She was married Jan. 10, 1923 in Des Moines. ~ The Newton Daily News, July 11, 1983.
