MAXWELL - Raymond Pershall, 89, died Sunday, Aug. 17, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Church in Maxwell with the Rev. Tom Lee and the Rev. Eugene Bucklin officiating. Friends may call Wednesday at the Rob Bacon Funeral Home (formerly Cooper) from 4 to 7 p.m. in Maxwell. Memorial contributions may be made to Maxwell Christian Church.

The son of Vern and Lennie (Koon) Pershall, he was born March 29, 1914, in rural Baxter. He married Leila Stratton on Dec. 20, 1935. He farmed near Baxter and worked at the Maytag Company until he retired in 1979. He was an active member of Ashton Chapel for many years and of the Maxwell Christian Church after he and his wife moved to Maxwell during his retirement.

Mr. Pershall enjoyed gardening, baseball and horseback riding. He enjoyed working at the Maxwell Museum conducting tours, especially for school children. He and his wife moved to Baxter in 1998 to be near family and friends.

Survivors include his daughters, Joan Bunkofske of Cedar Falls, Linda Calvin of Baxter and Mary K. Pershall of Melbourne, Australia; six sisters; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and two sons-in-law, Jim Bunkofske of Cedar Falls and John Hornshaw of Melbourne, Australia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother and son-in-law, Jack Calvin.
