Robert Alan Perry, 72, of rural Newton died of heart failure Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E. in Newton, with the Rev. Merle Smith officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 3 to 5 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name.
The son of Tom and Mamie (Chambers) Perry, he was born Jan. 10, 1931, in Newton. He was a 1949 graduate of Newton Senior High School. On July 12, 1952, he married Mary Arnetta Luther in Newton. He was a farmer and a rural postal carrier and retired in 1998. He was a member of Rural Postal Carriers of America, past member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton and Newton Masonic Lodge No. 59 AF/AM. He enjoyed the outdoors, farming, watching races, riding on his ATV four-wheeler and traveling.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Diane Perry of Granger; daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Mark Vansice of Ira; three grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Richard Nunn of Stuart, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a grandson, John Robert Beem, and a brother, Tom Perry.
