Lois J. Miles, 77, of 1806 N. 2nd Ave. E. died Saturday, Aug. 9, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

There will be no visitation. Memorials will be accepted to the Miles Creative Arts Center at Camp Hantesa in Boone and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Joseph Guy and Freda (Morden) McFadden, she was born Dec. 12, 1925, in Marshalltown. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1943 and from Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing.

On Dec. 25, 1946, she married Frank J. Miles in Newton. She was a registered nurse at Skiff Medical Center in Newton and retired in 1990. Mrs. Miles was a member of United Presbyterian Church and Jasper County Nursing Association. She grew up in Newton and has lived in Newton since returning in 1959.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey P. and Bobbie Miles of Denmark Township, Minn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jo Miles-Seely and Harry Seely of Canton, Miss.; two grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Morden and Dorothy McFadden of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Su C. McFadden.
