Marion H. "Bud" Marchant, 77, of 507 S. 11th Ave. W. died of cancer Sunday, Aug. 3, at his home.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E. in Newton, with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will be available from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials Will be accepted in his name, to Hospice of Jasper County or Jasper County Senior Citizens.
The son of Herbert and Myrtle Hambleton-Marchant, he was born July 7, 1926, in Ayrshire. He graduated from high school in Jamaica. On Nov. 14, 1948, he married La Vonne Alice Van Gundy in Jamaica.
Mr. Marchant later married Rosamond M. Birkenholz-Swihart in Monroe. He was employed by the Maytag Company and worked in the dryer department as a supervisor before he retired. He was a member of Newton First Presbyterian Church, Jasper County Senior Citizens, and Newton V.F.W. Post 1655.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dennis and Twila of Knoxville, Scott and Marsha and Malcom and Kevin of Chino, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Mark Ray of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a brother, Gail; and a sister, Reva.
