PELLA - Orie Lourens, 87, of Pella, formerly of Prairie City, died Tuesday, July 29, in Pella.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella with Pastor Henry Poppen and Pastor Andy Kamphuis officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Friends may call Monday at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella where the family will be available from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Trinity Reformed Church or Hospice of Pella.
The son of Artje (Snetselaar) and Albert Lourens Sr., he was born Oct. 15, 1915, in Prairie City. He served in the armed forces during World War II and was a farmer and factory worker.
On July 31, 1947, he married Esther DeVries in Mitchellville.
Mr. Lourens was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, Golden Hour Sunday School class and the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing cards and horseshoes, camping and spending time with his family and friends. He lived for 45 years on a farm near Prairie City and in Pella for the past 11 years.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Roger VanWyk of Otley, Mary and Ray Pothoven of Pella, Judy Lourens and her friend Toby Luthes of Monroe, Kathy Lourens of Monroe and Sherry and Michael Feldman of Urbandale; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ben Lourens of Prairie City and George Lourens of Elkhart; three sisters, Gertrude Van Zee of Pella, Bertha Vande Lune of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Elizabeth Koonce of San Tee, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Pete, Gerrit, Geurt, John and Albert Lourens; a sister, Jeanette Van Peursem; a brother Jon; and a sister, Jannetje, who died in infancy; and twin grandsons.
