Miss Elizabeth Young was born in Dallas county, Iowa June 1, 1873, and from her home near Olmitz passed to her God June 6, 1928, aged 55 years and 5 days.
In Jasper Co., May 23, 1887, she was united in marriage with Mike Oswalt. To this union were born nine children, Bird Davis, Hadock; Charles Oswalt and Pearl Lay, Olmitz, Iowa; Edith Brown, Newton; Annie Ballard, Melrose; Harry Oswalt, Wichita, Kansas; John Oswalt, Chariton, Iowa; Harold and Arthur, of Olmitz. One stepson, Lewis Oswalt, resides at Weldon, Iowa.
She was a good neighbor, never tiring in waiting upon the sick and during the flue epidemic in 1918 was a reliable home trained nurse. When many were fearful of contracting the disease she never faltered but offed herself freely.
Her passion was her home. Her philosophy, that a woman who kept her home and kept away from gossip would never stir up a neighborhood mess. She was one of those quiet, patient, self effacing persons who are never fully appreciated until after they were gone. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, three brothers, nine children. Twenty-two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and as many friends as she had acquaintances.
Funeral services were conducted at her home by the Rev. E. J. Zumsteg, of Columbia on the 8th inst. And interment made in the McKeever cemetery near Colfax.
