Milo McKeever Meets Death in Coal Mine
Accident Happened Tuesday at Fairfield, In New Mine Shaft
Milo McKeever, well known resident of Colfax died Tuesday afternoon as a result of an accident in the mine where he was working.
Mr. McKeever, with Walter Barron, George Nichols and Ben Beckham, all at one time of this place, were sinking a new shaft about 4 ½ miles from Fairfield, Iowa, and Milo was busy filling the large bucket with water and fastened it in the ordinary manner, and no one will know just how it happened, but when the bucket was about half way to the top it came unfastened and the bucket and water fell, knocking Mr. McKeever to the ground, unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital at Fairfield at once where he received expert medical aid but the blow had been too severe and with out gaining consciousness, he passed away two hours after the accident happened.
It is said those buckets weigh about 100 pounds when empty and the shaft was about 100 feet deep.
Mr. McKeever is the son of W. H. McKeever of Oswalt, and was born at Oswalt, Dec. 20, 1882. He is well known here where he grew to manhood. He has been engaged in mining all … ago he served as City Councilman for the First Ward.

Milo Burnett McKeever, son of W. H. McKeever, was born December 30th, 1882 at Oswalt, Iowa, and died September 22nd, 1925 at Fairfield, Iowa, aged 42 years, 9 months and 23 day, death being caused as the result of an accident in his coal mine.
He was united in marriage with Nora Bell Clement, August 29th, 1913. A few years preceding this he had joined the Church of Christ at Colfax.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
He is survived by his wife and son Carroll, his father, W. H. Oswalt, two brothers, M. W. of San Diego, Ia., and J. N. of Oswalt; one sister, Ellen at home, besides many other relatives and friends. His mother Henrietta Oswalt preceded him in death 35 years.
He was a loving husband and father and his going leaves sad aching hearts.
Funeral services were held from the Christian Church with Rev. V. H. Rogers, pastor, officiating. Interment was made at McKeever cemetery.
