COLFAX — Shirley L. Thoreson, 71, of Colfax died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf of First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in her name for the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center.
The daughter of Charles Crocker Purvis and Nannie Maude Pence, she was born Oct. 3, 1934, in Rutledge, Mo. She graduated from Keokuk High School in 1952. On Dec. 25, 1952, she married Robert Thoreson in Augusta, Ill. She was a bookkeeper and co-owner of CRT Construction and Thorco Transportation.
Mrs. Thoreson lived in Augusta, Ill., the Des Moines area and in Colfax. She also wintered in Florida. She attended Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing and cooking for her family.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Mona (Ed) Brant of Colfax, Melinda (Jim) Wright and Melonee Myers, all of Newton; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Steve (Teresa) Purvis of Newark, Del.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
