Marjorie "Kitty" Thomas, 76, of Newton died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Community Heights Alliance Church, 1000 E. 12th St. S. in Newton. Burial will follow at McKeever Cemetery, located on Highway 117 north of Colfax. Lunch will be served at Community Heights Alliance Church following burial. Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Ira United Church or Community Heights Alliance Church.

The daughter of Jake and Leta Lowry, she was born April 20, 1929, at their farm home near Mingo. She was active in the Ira Christian Church. She was a student at Mingo Community Schools and graduated in 1948. She married Howard Thomas on Sept. 2, 1950, at the Ira Christian Church.

Mrs. Thomas was active in church, at Ira and later at Community Heights Alliance Church. She taught Bible school, Sunday school, Ladies Missionary cell, was a member of the Prime Time 50/50 Club and assisted with the Ira Star.

Mrs. Thomas was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Multi Foods of Mitchellville, Willowbrook Adult Day Care and Jasper County Home Health. Recently, she was a patient of USA Healthcare in Newton.

She is survived by three sons, Marvin of Somers, Conn., Ronald of Altoona and Dennis (BeLinda) of Reasnor; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; three sisters, Vyrlee (Bill) Armstrong of Las Vegas, Nev., Joan Spillner of Portage, Wis., and Bobbie Killion of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, James Lowry of Mingo; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Avis Ruggless.
