DES MOINES — John D. Marshall, 59, of Des Moines, formerly of Newton, died at his home Friday, Oct. 21, 2005.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, located at 5400 S.W. Ninth St. in Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to the Iowa Civil Liberties Union Foundation in Des Moines or the Humane Society.
The son of Trula and Harold Marshall, he was born May 11, 1946, in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School and received an undergraduate degree from Monmouth College in Monmouth, Ill., and a graduate degree from the University of Iowa. He worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative, science text editor and scientific, medical and educational copywriter. He also worked with technical support and had a home business of information search. He taught English as a second language and volunteered with the AIDS project, election campaigns and IRIS. He enjoyed nature and cats.
Survivors include a brother, David (Pat) Marshall of Ashville, N.C.; two nieces; and friend, Bob Crigler.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
