MONROE - Olive Fern Ver Woert, 84, of Monroe died Friday, July 18, at Nelson Manor in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Pastor Harold Koughn and Pastor Linda Butler officiating. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today after 2 p.m. at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Monroe Emergency Unit, Nelson Manor or Alzheimer's Association.

The daughter of William Vern and Cynthia (Schrader) Hevlin, she was born Nov. 3, 1918, in Monroe. On March 4, 1939, she married Henry Ver Woert in Pella. A lifelong resident of the area, she enjoyed ceramics, sewing and all types of crafts. She also enjoyed square dancing and judged the fiddler's contest at the State Fair for several years.

Survivors include a daughter, Martha Stewart of Newton; a son, Henry Glen Ver Woert of Knoxville; a brother, Raymond Hevlin of Des Moines; and seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a great great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Lloyd George Hevlin, and two sisters, Wilma Elizabeth Klein and Rosetta Mae Gilchrist.
