E. Maurine Reckler, 98, of 2593 W. 15th St. S. died of heart failure Wednesday, June 18, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E. in Newton, with the Rev. David Wendel, senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in her name to the First United Methodist Church or the Jasper County Historical Society.

The daughter of Vernon and Clara (Brown) French, she was born March 14, 1905, in rural Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1923 and attended Iowa State University for two years.

On Aug. 3, 1932, she married Wesley Andrew Reckler in Newton. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. She was a gardener and horticulturist. Mrs. Reckler was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jasper County Farm Bureau, Palo Alto Grange, life member of the Jasper County Historical Society, Jasper County Senior Citizens, Iowa and international 4-H leader for many years, Farm Bureau Women's LL Club and Airstream Travel Trailer Club.

Survivors include a son, Donald Reckler of Ames; two daughters and sons-in-law, Doris Jean and Charles Cabalka of Newton and Roberta and Wayne Wiegmann of Allison; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Lucile and John Johnstone of rural Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Leslie French.
