Pearl "Copper" Madeline Israel, 82, of Newton died of heart failure Wednesday, June 25, at Heritage Care Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E. in Newton, with Pastor David C. Smiley, interim pastor of the First Baptist Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. at the funeral home where the family will be available from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in her name.

The daughter of Luther Lee and Iva Eliza (Smith) Harmon, she was born May 21, 1921, in Rolfe, in Garfield Township. She was a high school graduate. On Feb. 2, 1952, she married George O. Israel in Rolfe. She worked in production and inspection at the Maytag Company and retired in 1989. She also operated Washer City Cafe. Mrs. Israel was a member of the Newton First Baptist Church, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Jasper County Senior Citizens, UAW Local No. 997 Retirees Union, Women's Home League and a Salvation Army volunteer.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sharon Israel of Stratford, Conn., and Jack and Janet Israel of Prior Lake, Minn.; four daughters and sons-in-law,
Carolyn and Dale Brenneman of Lisbon, Patricia and Bill Fieldman of Dubuque, Phyllis
and Tom Probasco of Des Moines and Deloris and Gary Petersen of Mt. Vernon; 27 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Jessalie Froh; a brother-in-law, Floyd Minkler; and a brother, Vernon Harmon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Donald Harmon, and a sister, Doris Minkler.
