Margaret M. Hobbs, 69, of 316 W. 3rd St. S. died Thursday, June 26, at Skiff Medical Center
in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Ed Aubuchon of the First Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Hospice Capital Campaign or to the American Cancer Society.

The daughter of John and Josephine (Watkins) Shepard Sr., she was born July 4, 1933, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1950. On Aug. 17, 1963, she married Gerold D. Hobbs Sr. in Unionville, Mo. She was a gardener and enjoyed her roses. She also was an avid bowler.

Mrs. Hobbs was a dairymaid in the cheese factory at Maytag Dairy Farm for more than 20 years. She was a past member of the UAW Local 997 and a lifelong resident of Newton.

Survivors include her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rickey and Rebecca Hewitt of Piqua, Ohio, and Gary and Gena Hobbs of Newton; one step-son, Bobby Anthony of Tahlequah, Okla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Kay and John C. Roode of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Shepard Jr. of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Charles L. Hewitt, and a sister in infancy.
