MARSHALLTOWN – Robert Orie Guthrie Jr., 48, of Marshalltown, formerly of Newton, died Friday, July 25.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Pursel-Davis Funeral Home in Marshalltown is handling arrangements.

Visitation and a vigil service will be held tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to the Robert O. Guthrie Jr. Memorial Fund.

The son of Robert and Martha (Robson) Guthrie, he was born Sept. 19, 1954, in Newton. He is a 1972 graduate of Newton Senior High School and also a graduate of Marshalltown Community College. He was employed by Lennox Manufacturing in Marshalltown and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Debra (Wirth) Guthrie of Marshalltown; two daughters, Michelle and Melissa; a son, Marc; one grandson; his parents of Newton; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Tom, Bert and Marta, Mick and Kim, and Jeff and Trisha, all of Newton; a sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Joe Madden of Newton; his grandmother, Winona Graham of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
