REPUBLIC, Mo. – Edith Ruth Dhondt, 89, of Republic, Mo., formerly of Newton, died of heart failure Friday, July 11, at Christian Health Care in Republic, Mo.

Funeral services were held today at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Don Johnston of Calvary Baptist Church in Grinnell officiating. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorials will be accepted in her name.

The daughter of Dan and Ruth (Beeler) McDowell, she was born Jan. 11, 1914, in Grinnell. She was a graduate of Grinnell High School. She married Peter August Dhondt. She was a forklift driver for the Maytag Company and retired in 1975 after working there for 30 years.

Mrs. Dhondt was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Grinnell. She lived in Grinnell, Kellogg, Newton and Colfax before moving to Republic, Mo.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Barb Dhondt of Republic, Mo.; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Addie Marie and Hollis Elliott of Grinnell; and a sister-in-law, Mickey McDowell of Wasco, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four daughters, Lauretta Morris, Mildred Andrews, Marie Cobb, Mary Rogers; two sons, Peter Eugene Dhondt and Ricky Lee Dhondt; and a sister and a brother.
