GRINNELL – Charles E. Burnham, 69, of Grinnell died of heart failure Tuesday, July 1, at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Oakland Acres Golf Course with the Rev. Del Dawes, retired, of Grinnell officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Lynnville. Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell is handling arrangements.
Friends may call from noon until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Grinnell Eagles Lodge.
The son of Albert Curtis and Olive Anna (Meredith) Burnham, he was born January 24, 1934, in Jasper County. He was raised in the Lynnville area prior to moving to Grinnell in 1942. He was educated in the Grinnell School District and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Upon discharge from the service, he was employed with AT&T and his work took him to several states throughout the Midwest. He moved to Grinnell in 1963 and was employed with GTE. Mr. Burnham retired in 1992. He was a member of the Grinnell Eagles Lodge, Grinnell Elks Lodge and the Grinnell American Legion.
Survivors include three sons, Keith Burnham of Grinnell, Kevin Burnham of Oskaloosa and Kenny Burnham of Des Moines; three brothers, Kenneth Burnham of Grinnell, Wayne Burnham of Spencer and Russell Burnham of Kellogg; one sister, Carol Hudnutt of Grinnell; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Richard Burnham.
