Elizabeth Livonia Irene (Briggs) Adair, 84, of Heritage Nursing Home in Newton died Friday, June 20, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the, Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. Burial will be in Leon Cemetery in Leon.

The daughter of Wilbur Clay and Myrtle Wise (Moss) Briggs, she was born Sept. 2, 1918, in Centerville. On June 1, 1935, she married Robert James Adair and they made their home in Leon. She was a homemaker and she did home health care in many homes in Leon after her family was grown. She moved to Newton in June 2001 to be with her daughter and family. In earlier years, she enjoyed taking photos of nature.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Sharon Adair of Des Moines, Robert and Suni Adair and Gary and Vickie Adair, all of Newport News, Va.; a daughter and a son-in-law, Annette and Fred Bebout of Newton; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Adair of Geneva, Neb.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Bill and Marilyn Briggs of Ottumwa and Junior Briggs of Knoxville; a sister, Mary O'Leary of Raytown, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Lonnie; five brothers, Tom Moss, Gerald, Ansel, Bob and Kenny Briggs; and a sister, Phyllis Smith.
