Mrs. Maud Logsdon, Former Daily News Woman’s Editor, Dies; Services Are Tuesday
Mrs. Victor V. (Maud M.) Logsdon, 80, of 316 S. 5th Ave. W., former women’s editor of The Newton Daily News, died Saturday at Mitchellville Care Center in Mitchellville.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church.
Dr. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, assisted by Dr. Edwin Frohardt, retired pastor of the church, will conduct services.
Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at Wallace Funeral Home.
Survivors are two sons; Victor Logsdon of Newton, formerly of Des Moines, and Robert Logsdon of Sioux City; two daughters, Mrs. Stella Maxwell of Newton and Mrs. C. H. (Eleanor) Readout of Des Moines; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, William Mulleneaux of Newton and a sister, Mrs. Clarence (Lucille) Sheets of Quitman, Tex.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in February, 1976, two brothers, John of Ajo, Ariz., and Henry of Newton, and a sister, Mrs. Harold (Marry) Morris of Van Nuys, Calif.
In addition to working for The Daily News for several years Mrs. Logsdon was credit manager for Montgomery Ward before her retirement.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, serving in several capacities, and was a past president of the Brooks Wesleyan Service Guild.
She also was past president of the Women’s Society and Jasper County Christian Group.
Mrs. Logsdon served as superintendent of the church’s primary Sunday school department and was a past president of the 4-0 Class.
She also was a past district treasurer of the United Methodist Church Women.
She was past noble grand of the Rebekah Lodge and was a past district deputy, past district president and an active worker in the Rebekah Lodge for more than 50 years.
She also served on committees of the Order of Eastern Star and was a past worthy high priestess of the Nazareth Shrine.
She was a member of the Aloeha Club, a past president of the Colfax PTA and a past district treasurer of the PTA Council.
Mrs. Logsdon, a former member of the Rebekah Lodge in Colfax, was past president of the Service Star Legion and past president of the Legion Auxiliary, Navy Mothers Club, Newton Writers Club and the Iowa Women’s Press Association.
She also was a member of the What Not Club in Colfax.
The daughter of William M. and Mary McWhirter Mulleneaux, she was born Jan. 11, 1899 in the Metz community.
She was married June 24, 1917 at the Methodist Church parsonage in Marshalltown.
She moved to the Colfax community in April, 1899, and resided there until she moved to Kellogg for 16 months. She returned to Colfax in August, 1929, then moved to Marshalltown in 1939.
In 1943 she moved to Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, April 9, 1979.
