Muriel E. Edwards Mulleneaux, 86, of Crystal Manor Care Center in Des Moines, a former resident of Newton and Baxter, died of congestive heart failure Wednesday morning, Jan. 29, [1992] at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Reese Chapel.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Heart Association will be accepted.

She is survived by daughter, Mary (Mrs. James) Murphy of Des Moines; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Shannon of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Juanita Stickles of Joliet, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry, and a sister in infancy.

Mrs. Mulleneaux taught in rural schools and with her husband operated creameries in various Iowa towns.

The daughter of Lyman and Harriet Henry Edwards, she was born Feb. 26, 1905 in Des Moines.

A 1922 graduate of Mingo Community High School, she attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls.

She was married to Henry Mulleneaux in January, 1925, in Colfax.

She had resided in Tingley, Baxter, and Newton before moving to Des Moines in 1954. ~ The Newton Daily News, January 20, 1992.
