Stella F. Maxwell

Stella F. Logsdon Maxwell, 77, 1105 E. 12th St. S., died of cancer this morning, March 18, at Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Newton First United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Order of Eastern Star services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to RSVP or the Newton First United Methodist Church will be accepted.

Survivors are a son, and daughter-in-law, Michael D. and Susan of Newton; a grandchild, Angela Langenberg; and two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Joseph.

Also surviving are two brothers and sisters-in-law, Victory J. and Frances Logsdon of Marshalltown and Robert W. and Doris Logsdon of Sioux City; and a sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Clifford Readout of Sioux City.

Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Maxwell was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Mrs. Maxwell was a member of the Newton First United Methodist Church, was a church Sunday school teacher and choir member, was past matron of the Newton Chapter 100, Order of Eastern Star, past worthy high priestess of the Nazareth White Shrine, past president of the Newton Business and Professional Women’s Club, and past president of the Mingo Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion.

She was employed by the Iowa Department of Human Services for 28 years and was employed at Spurgeon’s for three years before her retirement in 1983.

The daughter of Victor V. and Maud Mulleneaux Logsdon, she was born April 20, 1918 in Colfax and was a 1935 graduate of Colfax Community High School.

She also resided in the Colfax and Collins areas.

She was married to J. Ralph Maxwell Feb. 21, 1937 in Colfax. ~ The Newton Daily News, March 18, 1996.
