Joseph Mulleneaux Dies Wednesday; Services Saturday
Joseph Henry Mulleneaux, 74, of Newton, died Wednesday evening at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 o’clock Saturday morning at the Johnson-Reese Chapel.
The Rev. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Johnson-Reese Chapel after 7 o’clock this evening.
Survivors are his wife, Muriel of Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. James (Mary) Murphy of Des Moines, two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. V. V. (Maud) Logsdon of Newton, Mrs. C. A. (Lucile) Sheets of Quitman, Tex., and Mrs. H. C. (Mary) Morris of Van Nuys, Calif.; and a brother, William Mulleneaux of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Mr. Mulleneaux, who had operated produce businesses in Tingley and Baxter, also had been a Maytag Co. employee and managed a gas station in Des Moines until retiring in 1967.
The son of William and Mary [McWhirter] Mulleneaux, he was born Mar. 7, 1903 in Colfax and attended Colfax schools.
He was married to Muriel Edwards, Jan. 5, 1926 in Des Moines.
Mr. Mulleneaux, who had resided in nursing homes in Newton for the past 5 years, had lived in a number of Jasper County communities before moving to Des Moines in 1954. ~ The Newton Daily News, July 7, 1977.
