LAUREL - Alvin E. Schnelle, 88, of Laurel died Friday, June 6, at the Baxter Healthcare Center in Baxter.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory, with Reverend Jim Olson from the Zoar Church, officiating. Burial will follow services in the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Alvin Schnelle Memorial Fund.

The son of August and Laura (Reekler) Schnelle, he was born Sept. 13, 1914, in Newton. On April 26, 1941, he married Wanda Buckles in Princeton, Mo.

Following his retirement from Lennox Industries, after 18 years of service, he farmed and lived in the Laurel area for almost 50 years. He was a member of the U.A.W. Union Local No. 893.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, LauraAnn and Laverne DeLawyer of Freemont, Neb., and Linda and Carroll Sampson, of Exira; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bruce and Diana Schnelle of Marshalltown, Ronald Schnelle of Laurel and Michael and Cherise Schnelle of Laurel; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Vernon, Glen and Raymond.
