DES MOINES - Elva Vera Maxwell, 88, formerly of the Collins area, died Friday, May 30, at the Luther Park Health Care in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 4, at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Sonny Walker of Ashton Chapel, officiating. Burial will be at the Ashton Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made in her name.

The daughter of Carrie and Sylvia Barton Van Wey, she was born August 31, 1914, in Elkhart. She was united in marriage to Clarence Maxwell on March 9, 1937, in Des Moines. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. She was a member of the Ashton Chapel and enjoyed baking cookies and working in her garden.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Faye Maxwell of Wasilla, Alaska; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Michael Ogden of Westminster, Colo., and Jane and Bill Binder of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Van Wey of Ankeny; and a sister, Faye Horn of Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, LeRoy and Kenneth; a sister, Elizabeth; and a grandson.
