B. Lucille De Penning, 91, of Newton, formerly of Sully, died Monday, June 16, at Careage of Newton. Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Sully Cemetery in Sully with Pastor Brice Hoyt of the First Reformed Church in Sully officiating. Wallace family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where the family will be available. Memorials will be accepted to the Thyme Garden Club of Sully and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of William and Florence (Onthank) Van Wyk, she was born March 5, 1912, in Jasper County. On Feb. 5, 1934, she married Herman De Penning in Sully. She was a seamstress for 40 years and enjoyed the many people she met doing sewing over the years. She sewed up to four years ago in the nursing home. She also enjoyed lawn work and was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sully. She lived in Sully and then in Newton the past seven years.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry De Penning in Ottumwa, Howard and Lucile De Penning of Sully, and Carroll and Nancy De Penning of Newton; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two step-brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer; and Emma Dieleman and Marion and Treva Dieleman, all of Pella; two sisters-in-law, Frances Van Wyk and Catherine De Penning, all of Sully; a brother-in-law, Ted Rozendaal of Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant great-grandson; a brother, Wilburn Van Wyk; and a sister, Vera Kruseman.
