Eva P. Stuart-Balmer, 99, formerly of Newton, died of congestive heart failure Saturday, June 7, at St. Francis Care Center in Grinnell.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the service. Memorials will be accepted in her name or to the St. Francis Activity Fund.

The daughter of William Franklin and Arrisia Ella (Cooper) Stuart, she was born Oct. 5, 1903, in Jasper County. She graduated from Grinnell Senior High School in 1921. On April 6, 1935, she married Charlie Balmer in Jasper County.

Mrs. Balmer was a homemaker and enjoyed flowers, photography, sewing, quilting and crocheting and was a member of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include two sisters, Faye Vogt of rural Grinnell and Helen Brubaker of Searsboro, several nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends in the Jasper County and Grinnell areas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Ona and Leonard Stuart; and three sisters, Ollie Thompson, Esther Adamson and Alma Thompson.
