MONROE – Ben Van Wyk, 97, of Monroe died Monday, May 5, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Monroe Presbyterian Church with Pastor Ann Rouse and Pastor Chris Reeves officiating. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.

Friends may call Wednesday after 2 p.m. at the church where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Monroe Presbyterian Church or to Hospice of Pella.

The son of Willem and Tillie (Tigechelaar) Van Wyk, he was born July 28, 1905, in rural Pella. On Dec. 30, 1926, he married Irma Nelle Honnold in Monroe. He was a farmer and a member of the Monroe Presbyterian Church. He served as an elder, sang in the choir and was a member of the UPC Men's Quartet.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Joan Van Wyk of Monroe; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Bernie Reeves of Monroe and Bonnie and Frank Sloan of Runnels.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Phyllis Fraizer, and all of his brothers and sisters.
