Fern Thompson, 71, of 500 E. 26th St. S. died of heart failure Monday, May 5, at her home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Thompson the First Assembly of God Church in Newton with Pastor Ed Aubuchon and Pastor Ramon Booth officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Women's Ministries of First Assembly of God Church in Newton and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

The daughter of John Q. Lockwood III and Gussie Adair, she was born March 29, 1932, in Woodland. On Dec. 28, 1949, she married Irving Edward Thompson in Leon.

Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker, a member of the First Assembly of God Church and a member of Women's Ministries for 40 years. She served as president of Women's Ministries for eight years, served on the missions board and as a missionettes' sponsor. She also was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading of current events, ceramics, quilting, traveling and cooking.

Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Paula Thompson of Farmington, Minn.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Nolan Kelsey and Connie Thompson, all of Newton, and Becky and Dennis Dailey of Woodland and Sherry and Mark Williams of Altoona; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Max and JoAnn Lockwood of Westminster, Colo.; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Twyla and Orville Kost of Clio and Madge Showers of Leon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Victor, Junior, Raymond and a brother in infancy and a sister, Coy Showers.
