GRINNELL - Della A. Springer, 78, of Seeland Park in Grinnell and formerly of the Rock Creek Lake area, died on Monday, May 5, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery west of Grinnell.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home beginning at noon today where the family will be present at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice or to the Shriner's Hospital.

The daughter of Herman and Gladys (Shill) Deppe, she was born on August 15, 1924, in the Rock Creek area near Kellogg. She was raised on the family farm and attended rural school. On July 6, 1945, she was married to David W. Springer in Buford, S.C.

The couple lived in Grinnell until 1962, when they moved to Rock Creek Lake in rural Jasper County. She was a Homemaker and a member of the auxiliaries of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners Lodge. Mrs. Springer enjoyed raising flowers and crocheting.

Survivors include her son, Rick Springer of Kellogg; one daughter, Janice Springer of Clear Lake; two grandchildren; three brothers, Albert and Gerald Deppe, both of Grinnell, and Ernest "Bud" Deppe of Kellogg; and two daughters, Bernice Winchell and Maxine Wilson, both of Grinnell.

Her husband and her parents preceded her in death.
