MONROE – Mae Agnes Simpson, age 83, of Monroe, died Tuesday, May 6, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 9, at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe at 10 a.m.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. Memorials may be donated to the Monroe Fire Department or the Emergency Unit.

The daughter of Thomas and Margaret (O'Brien) Slocum, she was born July 12, 1919, in Knoxville. She graduated from Attica High School and attended Central College in Pella. She was married to Ernest Arden Simpson on August 17, 1942, in Unionville, Mo. She worked in Pella while her husband was serving in World War II. After the war, they made their home in rural Monroe and later moved into town.

Mrs. Simpson helped with the farming, assisted several elderly citizens, and had worked at the Congregate Meal Site in Monroe. She enjoyed preparing meals for friends and family. She also was an active member of the Community of Christ Church in Monroe where she taught Sunday School for many years.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses; Ron and Margaret Beaver of Knoxville, William (Bill) and Patti Simpson of rural Monroe and Rodney and Bev Simpson of Ames; seven grandchildren; and two great grand-daughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one granddaughter, her parents and two brothers, Clarence Slocum and Raymond Slocum.
