Melba B. Sexton, 82, of Newton died of heart failure Saturday, May 17, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Newton, Saturday at 1 p.m. The body will be cremated.

Memorials will be accepted to the First United Methodist Church of Newton.

Born and raised in Victor, she moved to Newton to teach elementary school. She married A. Donald Sexton in 1952. She was an active member of the community for more than 50 years and was a member of 20th Century Club, Clio Club, T.T.T., Order of the Eastern Star, League of Women Voters and the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Scot Sexton of Madison, Ala., and a daughter, Ann Sexton Dowell of Runnells.
