MARSHALL TOWN – Robert William Rethmeier, 79, of Marshalltown, formerly of Jasper County, died Tuesday, May 27, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

A graveside Rethmeier memorial service will beheld Friday at 2 p.m. at the Zoar Church Cemetery in rural Newton. Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Marshalltown is
handling arrangements.

There is no scheduled visitation. Memorials will be accepted to the Robert W. Rethmeier Memorial Fund.

The son of Frederick William and Rose Marie (Tinnermeier) Rethmeier, he was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Jasper County. He attended Jasper County schools and served in the United States Army during World War II.

He had been married on three separate occasions, first to Pauline Suptin, then to Myrna Clar and lastly to Marcia Runner. He worked at the Gray Iron foundry until he retired in 1972. He also farmed and owned and operated a small trucking business. He was a member of Zoar Church and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing and playing cards.

Survivors include a son and. daughter-in-law, Gary and Jana Rethmeier of Garland, Texas; three grandchildren; three brothers and two sister-sin-law, Donald and Joyce Rethmeier of Laurel, Verne Rethmeier of Big Rock, Tenn., and Ralph and Helen Rethmeier of Newton; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Verna Ulrey and Violet Smith, both of Monroe, Florence Foster of Corydon and Myrtle and Robert Foster of Garden City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Glen, Morris, Floyd and infant Darrell.
