Robert G. Robson, 53, of 1126 W. 7th St. S. died of a heart attack Monday, May 26, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with Pastor Mary Schnepf officiating. Burial will be in the Veteran's Section II of the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

The son of Donald G. and Pearl E. (Kono) Robson, he was born Dec. 2, 1949, in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1968. On Oct. 17, 1980, he married Nina K. Miller in Newton. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and worked as a mail handler at United States Bulk Mail Center in Urbandale for 10 years. He retired in 1993.

Mr. Robson was a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW Post 1655, American Legion Post 111, Jasper County Vietnam Veterans, Disabled Veterans and the United Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and playing chess.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert R. "Randy" Robson of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Nicole J. and Brian P. O'Riley of Denver, Colo.; his mother, Pearl E. Robson of Newton; a brother, Jerry Robson of Newton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Teresa and Chad Page and Penny and Gary Green, all of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
