Charles J. Long, 81, of 1743 S. 8th Ave. E. died of complications of pneumonia Friday, May 9, at Skiff Medical Center1n Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in
Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to Heritage Manor Activities Fund and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Charles J. and Violet Long, he was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Fort Dodge. On Nov. 26, 1942, he married Helen J. McDaniel in Newton. He was a union plumber and steam/pipe fitter. Mr. Long served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a resident for more than 20 years. He lived in Marshalltown from the mid-1950s until he moved to Newton.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Betty White and Jane McDaniel, both of Newton; two nephews, David P. White of Newton and William McDaniel of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
