Kenneth L. Dieterich, 84, of 1715 N. 8th Ave. E. died of a heart attack Wednesday, May 28, at his home in Newton.

Memorial services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Newton with the Rev. Gene Bryant officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to the Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside or Special Olympics of Iowa and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

The son of Henry L. and Mina A. (Speck) Dieterich, he was born Feb. 23, 1919, in Victor. He was a graduate of Brooklyn High School in 1938.

On Feb. 23, 1939, he married A. Maxine Ruble in Grinnell. On Jan. 21, 1978, he married Eula Mae (DePenning) Olson in Reasnor. He farmed from 1930 to 1980, when he retired.

Mr. Dieterich had a pilot's license in the early 1950s, enjoyed driving his John Deere tractor and was a big ISU sports fan. He was a member of the First Christian Church and Poweshiek County Farm Bureau. He lived on his family farm near Brooklyn from 1930 until moving to Newton in 1990.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, K. Craig and Pat Dieterich of Charleston, Ark.; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Greg Higgins of Brooklyn; a stepdaughter, Linda Boyd of Urbandale; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and a sister, Dorothy Massman.
