Ruth E. Cobbs, 94, of 500 1st St. N. died of renal failure Friday, May 9, at Park Centre Care Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with Pastor David Wendell officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. The family will greet friends at the church with a coffee time immediately following the burial. Memorials will be accepted to the First United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the day of the service.

The daughter of Willis and Rosa Belle "Rose" (Sanders) Martz, she was born Oct. 18, 1908, in Grinnell. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1927. On Oct. 18, 1931, she married Ben C. Cobbs in Grinnell. She was a homemaker and a nurse at Skiff Medical Center in the obstetrics department.

Mrs. Cobbs was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Builders Sunday School class, Newton Woman's Club, Rock Creek Ikettes, Aloha Club and the Creative Writing Club. She lived in Grinnell from 1908 until 1927, when she moved to Newton.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ben C. Cobbs Jr. and Elaine of Maryville, Tenn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Martina and Dwain Holmes of Newton; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.
