Ted L. Vinson, 83, of Newton died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County — Monarch Wing or American Diabetes Association may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Arthur M. and Dixie B. (Teal) Vinson, he was born March 24, 1922, in Eldon. He grew up in Eldon and graduated from Eldon High School.

Mr. Vinson served in the U.S. Army during World War II and served as a corporal. On April 14, 1946, he married Elsie L. Reinier in Newton. He was a machinist at the Maytag Company for more than 36 years and retired in 1981.

He was a member of VFW Post 1655 and Moose Lodge No. 923. He was an avid Newton Cardinal fan and enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Sharon (Jerry) Nellis of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Cheryl (Robert) Deutsch of Cedar Rapids, Sandra Cupples of Des Moines and Debbra (Craig) Wearmouth of Newton; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dixie Belle Trainer of Trenton, Mo., and Nora Belle Smith of Whittier, Calif.
